Dance Caller ~ I am a Edinburgh based freelance ceilidh dance caller and singer - no band attached - I sing Irish, Scottish and Gaelic also a little country as well. I am sending you a copy of a dance I created to keep the Skye Bridge demonstrators warm - I come from Skye originally.  I work frequently with the Pentland Ceilidh band also Annasach, Big Squeeze, Thunder Dogs and the Eden Ceilidh band.  I have sung since before I started school, learning songs from my elder brother and went through the Mod circuit. I won the duet competition in 1991 at the national mod in Dingwall among other competitions. I started calling when I was singing with Macnamarra's Ceilidh Band in Skye a few years ago. O'er the Border Band ...take their name and inspiration from an old bagpipe tune of the same title which commemorates a Scots Border raid into England.  Crossing Borders in both time and space, O’er the Border Band explore the musical traditions of the Borderlands of Scotland and England.  The eternal themes of Cross Border Conflict, Love and the Supernatural permeate their music.  They use both ancient and modern instruments and are equally expressive in a powerful rendition of a Border Ballad air as they are enervating with a wild reel or jig. THE HOT CLUB Jazz group for the couple who wish something a little different in the form of sophisticated swing jazz of the highest quality ! The Hot Club is a stylish string jazz group which is capturing the imagination of audiences wherever they perform. They create an exciting acoustic swing sound reminiscent of the original "Hot Club of France" of the 1930's fame but much more contemporary in style.
Additional elements such as vocals and both Latin and blues rhythms add colour, update and enrich the musical mixture.
While featuring the "Hot Jazz" of Grappelli and Reinhardt and more contemporary jazz standards, The Hot Club perform with a dynamic freshness and virtuosity that is not to be missed.
The Hot Club's latest compact disc, "The Hot Club Live" recorded at The Edinburgh International Jazz Festival, has been released as a tribute to the late Staphane Grappelli. -- Exciting acoustic swing sound. Safe Sax ~ Top sax band. Playing everything from classical to jazz, from pop to ballads, if we like it we play it.
John Kirk, a former Gordonstoun pupil who didn't cheat on Big Brother on television, now retired from helicopter flying, has been playing music all his life. His love of jazz shows, but his best performances on his Yanagasawa tenor sax have always been the romantic ballads, the love songs, anything with passion. Matti Kirk, full time carer for her disabled husband John, has been playing alto sax for two years. She provides the glamour to the band. Her favourites include the duets with John, she loves the Blues Brothers, and really bounces along to the up-tempo popular music.
For weddings, we would like to provide the style of music you want. If you want smooth, sexy background music during your celebrations, that is fine. For those wishing a more specialist, jazz only style, it would be our pleasure. If greater numbers are wanted, more musicians can be added to the line up for the night.
